Craft Beer & Wine Trail

1 Day Grade 1-2 (Easy to Beginner) Pick your distance

NZD$60 per person
Beer and wine have long been part of the Nelson-Tasman story. Early German settlers recognised the Moutere’s ideal climate for growing hops, sparking a brewing tradition that continues today. Over time, the same sunny hills and fertile valleys proved perfect for vineyards, producing some of New Zealand’s most distinctive wines.

Cycle through this flavourful region, where boutique breweries and family-run wineries invite you to taste, sip, and savour the best of Nelson-Tasman craftsmanship.

Itinerary

One Day
Tahunanui and Great Taste Trail

Start from either our Nelson or Mapua depots to explore craft breweries that stretch from Founders Heritage Park to Onekaka in Golden Bay. They make a perfect excuse for a half-day or full-day tour discovering the gorgeous corners of the region. Climbing from the waterfront up into the foothills, watch for historic hop kilns along the way.

Many of these locally owned, family-run breweries and outlets welcome visitors for tours, sampling at the bar, having a meal or takeaway sales. Share a pint with locals, learn about our history and experience the wide range of unique beers. Whether you prefer an icy pilsner or a cask-pulled ale, you’ll find it in Nelson. Some can be reached by foot from your lodging, others along a nice cycle loop, and the rest are worth the drive.

The Nelson-Tasman region is also famous for its boutique wineries. Vineyards producing crisp Sauvignon Blanc, aromatic Riesling, and rich Pinot Noir can be found along the same scenic routes, many offering tastings, cellar door experiences, and relaxing spots to take in the views. Combine brewery and winery stops for a full flavour adventure and discover the best of Nelson-Tasman’s craft drinks.

Try a half day ride or go for the full day trip, whatever your tipple or fancy come on in for some great watering hole advice.
