Explore the Queenstown Trails from Frankton in the heart of the Queenstown basin, following a spectacular route through alpine landscapes and river valleys into Gibbston wine country. From there, continue along the newest Great Ride, the Kawarau Gorge Trail, a standout section of trail that winds through dramatic gorge scenery, crosses suspension bridges, and follows the Kawarau River all the way into the Bannockburn region.

  • Meet the Kiwi Journeys team in Queenstown, ready for the ride. After a briefing and bike fitting, you’ll be all set to hit the trail.

  • (shuttle first?)From Frankton, dive straight into dramatic alpine scenery, flowing rivers, and native bush as you choose your route. Ride the new Shotover Gorge Trail and its tunnel, or follow the Countryside Trail or Twin Rivers Trail towards Arrowtown. Suspension bridges carry you effortlessly across river valleys as the landscape opens up toward Gibbston.

    Link onto the Gibbston River Trail and enjoy the ride through world-class wine country, passing cellar doors and taking in sweeping valley views. Along the way, catch the energy at the iconic Kawarau Bungy Bridge before finishing the day in Gibbston. End with a well-deserved tasting at Kinross Cellar Door, the perfect way to unwind after a rewarding day on the trails.

  • After breakfast it’s time to embark on the newest trail of the Great Rides network - the Kawarau Gorge Trail which follows the Kawarau River through the gorge connecting the magnificent wine area of Gibbston to the equallly wonderful wine region of Bannockburn Throughout the day, witness staggering, dramatic scenery and gold mining history Choose to stop for a meander through the Goldfields Mining Centre to learn about the region's gold mining history. For wine lovers, ride along Felton Road, home to some ofthe most prestigious wineries in New Zealand Enjoy an afternoon at Carrick Cellar Door & Garden for well earned nourishment and refreshments Heading back around the Bannockburn Inlet and past the Cromwell Historic Precinct, follow the trail north up Lake Dunstan to Kiwi Journeys Cromwell by 4.30pm Connect with the onward shuttle back to Queenstown or Wanaka, departing at 5pm
